Elizabeth Short - Thomas and Samuel Peploe-Wood
This month's meeting will be a presentation by Elizabeth Short (often referred to as Lizzie) who is the Learning Officer at the Staffordshire History Centre. She coordinates school visits, workshops, and historical walking tours. She will be giving a presentation about the lives of Thomas and Samuel Peploe-Wood, local artists and sculptors.
Thomas Peploe Wood (1817–1845): A landscape artist whose diaries, covering 1839–1844, provide insight into local life and art in Staffordshire.
Samuel Peploe Wood (1827–1873) was a talented sculptor and artist who studied in Milan. He was the brother of a noted artist, with both often featured in studies of regional art history.
